Daddy

The other day I swore that Sofi said "Daddy". My mom heard it, but DH denied it. Well, he's changed his tune since she says it so clearly! She'll go stand in the entryway and say it, around the time he usually comes home. Hopefully I can get it on tape soon!

Update

Oh boy. These little girls are growing WAY too fast!

Sofi:
She's definitely talking alot more. We're still trying to figure out what she's saying, but I think she's saying her name "sapi", she's usually said "hami" or "hum-hum" for food. There must be other words I'm forgetting.

She's a fearless little girl that likes to be in control. I think she's going to be bossing everyone around! The other day, I had just gotten home from work and they were running around and ended up with two of our remotes in their hands. At some point Sofi had both and would not give one to Alex. Sofi literally went around the dining room table with Alex running after her - Alex wanted to play with one of them too! Eventually I convinced Sofi to let Alex have one and she could play with the other. There's a black remote and a gray remote. So she gives Alex one and they play for a minute - then some how Alex sneaks the black one away from Sofi and Sofi is left with the gray one. OMG! Crocodile tears and pure screaming! Like Alex beat her up or bit her! My dad comes into the room to see what's going on, and all I can do is sit there and laugh! Seriously - she has one of the remotes, it's not like Alex is a hog like her. But she was so hurt!

Alex:
My determined perfectionist. It's so funny that we tend to think Sofi will do certain things before Alex because we see her trying to do them. Well, then we get a total surprise, when we see Alex actually DO that same task - not just try, but actually do it correctly! Just like talking - she's mastered "es-i" which means "this". Both girls actually make a lip smacking sound for yogurt! Totally funny! Alex also knows "hum-hum" for food. She's very good at pointing to what she wants.

Lately she hasn't been sleeping well. She'll wake up at 4am screaming. She'll scream if you lay down with her or pretty much do anything. So I try to calm her down and have her point to what she wants. Usually it's been to go downstairs. I still can't tell if she wants milk or water, but I don't want her to get back into the habit of having a bottle that early, so I usually try water. Then she whines and I put her down and she eventually ends up putting her head on my chest and falling asleep. I think it's just her teeth because it's been much better lately.

On the teeth (or is it tooth) front - both girls have pretty much all their teeth, including molars, and are now working on the 4 canine teeth.

Another funny story from my parents: I come home to Alex having a scratch under her eye and ask what that was from. Well, even with my dad sitting right in front of them, Alex bit Sofi's arm about three times (or at least we see three bite marks in the same area on Sofi's arm) and I guess Sofi scratched her in self-defense! That's their story - and they're sticking to it!

What else. There is so much that they do that is just AMAZING! I love how stubborn and determined they both are. They want to explore the world and try new things.

Oh - and this weekend while at MIL's, we were getting ready to leave. They had been playing with Emily all day, but it was time for naps. Alex was really into the umbrella stroller that is at my MIL's house and was enjoying a little ride in it. At some point, Emily decides that she's the only one who can play with it. OMG - the tears and screaming that came out of Alex! She usually doesn't care if someone takes something away from her - but she was so pissed by this!! I felt so bad for her. I'm just hoping that these three eventually become the best of friends that I expect them to be - we just need to get through the next few years!

On the pregnancy front, ummm... like 56 days or so left! (32 weeks) YIKES!! I'm so not ready to juggle three kids. I'm so sad that I won't have as much time with the girls. I'm really hoping that the new-to-this-pregnancy OB will take me out of work soon, I want some time with them and my work schedule and their sleep schedule just don't give us enough time. But I'm feeling good. I was dehydrated a bit last week, but thanks to Gatorade and some rest, everything is better. Little one is moving around still. It's just such big moves! My belly totally moves!

OK, I think this is all I have today - I'll have to make some smaller and more frequent posts instead of long-winded ones!

The door

Sofi has official started to try and open the front door. How the heck did she get tall enough for that!!
But now we have to be extra careful about locking the door just incase she attempts it again. :::sig:::

There's so much more to update, but I really want to leave work and get home to these two sweet little ladies. But in a nutshell, we went to Disneyland, went to Alina's shower, bought flower girl dresses and we'll be going to swim class for the first time tomorrow.

Another walker!!

Little Miss Alex....is officially walking!!

She took a few steps on her own on August 17th (just shy of 13months!), and she's just getting much more independent as each day passes! I swear she'll be running much sooner than Sofi did!

Last night when I got home, my dad and I actually took the girls for a "walk" instead of putting them in their stroller. Sofi likes to wander off on her own but I'm trying to teach her to hold hands. She'll hold it for a few steps and then lets go - kind of like an "OK, I did what you wanted, wasn't that enough for you?" Alex held on to my hand or my dad's for the whole time - until she got tired and decided that sitting on the ground and playing with the sidewalk cracks was more fun! But we made it to the end of the block and back (it's only about 6 houses, but hey - they're only one!)

So now we need to see how they're going to do in my cousin's wedding! I have a feeling Sofi will bolt to the alter and Alex will just stand there and wave to everyone! It's going to be awesome! I can't wait for my cousin to get married and I'm so excited that the girls get to be a part of her day.

20 Weeks - Half Baked!

Where has the time gone??? How can I be 20 weeks pregnant??
Time really has flown and I don't see it slowing down at any point. But life is really good.

This pregnancy is going great. I can't complain a single bit about it. This poor babe is getting beaten up by little miss A and miss S, but s/he takes it like a trooper! I hope it will be the same on the outside! Not much to report. We have our anatomy scan tonight. Looks like H really wants to find out the sex, but I just can't seem to agree. I LOVED finding out in the delivery room - it was so magical to hear the words and see their faces all at the same time. It's killing me not to know, but I just want that moment for the two - well actually three of us to share and have for us. I don't want anyone else in on knowing what's cooking. I know I don't make any sense, but I fear the "magic" will be lost for me. But, above all else, I just can't wait to see mini-mart C. It's been too long!

As for little miss A and little miss S - my how they are growing. We went to a party for our BFF's youngest son on Saturday (well, my mom, the girls and I) and I actually had to spend my time running around after little toddling Sofi - like she walked all over the place! Not just a step here and then time to pick her up - like walking consistently! I was in total shock realizing that things had changed forever.

Meanwhile, little miss Alex hung out with Grandma and got to blow bubbles and relax. She's such a little stinker! I can't wait to sign them up for swim lessons! I think Alex is going to rock it. She takes the biggest strides when she crawls - she gets to where she wants to be FAST! I'm thinking this might translate into good swimming strokes. We'll see!

What else - Sofi is now getting her lower lateral incisors (the #2's for those like me who know nothing about the names of teeth!) Alex is working on those upper molars. I don't see signs of Alex wanting to walk any time soon - but this is the girl who does things all out - so maybe she's hiding her talent!

And we have a huge event coming up - these little ladies are turning ONE!! The party is on Sunday and I hope they have a good time. I'm just sad that I think many of the kids aren't coming - but whatever! I know they'll still have a great time and maybe it will just be less stressful for me.

Then the following week, we're going away for a few days. Hopefully the girls will actually get a chance to get some actual beach and pool time. I hope the weather holds up nicely and they actually enjoy it. I've never had a chance to take them to a pool, and we've only walked around the beach.

Then after that - we get to take some family pictures! I can't wait! I just need to get all our outfits together and I hope I can find some cute ones for the girls. So far there are some good ones, but nothing I'm in love with.

And now for the weekly (or almost) quiz:

How far along? 20 weeks

Weight gain/loss: I think just 2lbs, I've been sick for what seems like FOREVER and I know I had dropped a bit a few days ago - so hopefully I'm making up for it and will actually start gaining soon. This is pretty much what happened with the girls - I really didn't start gaining until the second half or maybe 3rd tri - so we'll get there!

Feeling: Besides this left over cough - pretty darn good! Can't complain!

Maternity clothes? Still a mix - but I don't think I can pull off the non-maternity pants too much longer. I only do it out of desperation.

Sleep: Still doing good!

Food cravings: None. I just find it hard to find something that I really want to eat.

Movement? Starting to get some more distinct kicks and movements - but I think it's far less than what I was feeling with the girls.

What I miss? Still just Sushi or an Ahi steak and a fruity cocktail.

Best moment this week: Realizing how big the girls are getting. I just know they're going to be such amazing big sisters.

What I'm looking forward to: So much! Ultrasound tonight, OB appointment tomorrow, the girls party, their actual birthday, our trip and our pictures! I have alot to look forward to and I'm very excited!

Next Appointment: Anatomy scan is tonight and an OB appointment tomorrow. I'll finally get to discuss about delivery options and our plan. I'm excited to see what she has to say and I hope she understands my concerns since she did see me the day after surgery!

Milestones:
Your baby weighs about 10 1/2 ounces now. He's also around 6 1/2 inches long from head to bottom and about 10 inches from head to heel — the length of a banana. (For the first 20 weeks, when a baby's legs are curled up against his torso and hard to measure, measurements are taken from the top of his head to his bottom — the "crown to rump" measurement. After 20 weeks, he's measured from head to toe.)
He's swallowing more these days, which is good practice for his digestive system. He's also producing meconium, a black, sticky by-product of digestion.

Alot has happened...

OK, so there go my great thoughts of keeping up this blog.

So a lot has happened in the last month or so. The biggest and most devastating is that FIL passed away at the beginning of June. It's been tough, but we all know that he's in a better place and not hurting anymore. I still wish I had more time with him before his stroke over six years ago. DH and I had only been married 5 months when it happened. But he was a kind man and reminded me a lot of my own dad. The first time when my IL's met my parents, (it was still early in our relationship and we weren't sure where we stood, but things happen) Well, I remember that he turned to me and said, "I don't care what you and my son decide, these are MY friends now." And boy did that make my mind whirl with possible trips and things we could all do together. Unfortunately, the time to do that in was very short. But I do know that he loved his whole family and was so happy to see all of us, but it was so hard that he couldn't participate the way he wanted. He will be missed.

Other than that, I have to say that everything is good! The girls are 11 months old now and I can't believe all the things that their doing. Sofi started walking at just after 10 months old! Alex is still content with crawling and begging to be held! But she is talking a bit - saying "mama" or "humhum" when needed. They are both sort of babbling now - like they have conversations with them selves and the tone sounds so real but the words are non existent! I keep trying to get a good one on tape, but it's hard!

They're walking or crawling all over the house. They love going up the stairs. When they get to a landing they sit and clap! We have plenty of teeth coming in - Alex is working on her molars, she also cut her #2's on the bottom (can you tell that I don't know enough about teeth!) I think she's working on more, but she won't let me see! I do have her wearing an Amber Necklace - not sure if it's helping, but she looks so cute in it!! Sofi is working on a few teeth too - her canines are coming in and I'm sure there are more, again - she won't let me see!

I'm in the middle of planning their birthday party, while I'm excited about it, I'm so sad that they're growing up so fast! I just hope we enjoy the party - it's getting a little too big for my taste.

I still don't believe that #3 is on it's way. I'll be 18weeks tomorrow. Yikes! But I've always wanted to do these update things, so I hope I can complete a few more than I did with the girls.

How far along? 17 weeks and 6 days

Weight gain/loss: I think just 2lbs still. The girls don't let me remember to eat!

Feeling: Doing ok. I can't walk fast, I get winded, but it's not bad at all yet.

Maternity clothes? Since I weigh less than I did before getting pregnant with the girls, some of my old pants actually still fit! But the maternity pants are out! The tops should be as well, because my regular ones are getting a little short.

Sleep: Same as before pregnancy. The biggest issue is that the girls do not know how to sleep until 6am at least! They get up around 5:15am no matter when they go to sleep. I know I leave early for work, but it's hard to make sure DH has everything under control and then get myself out the door!

Food cravings: None really. Just an aversion to meat type things - chicken, fish, steak. I do force it down, but I'll take fruit, salad or pasta over it any day!

Movement? Funny - I know I felt things really early this time - like 12-13 weeks - But I'm not feeling as much now. I keep telling myself it's because of the girls and how much they keep me busy, so the poor baby needs to rest when they're not jumping on me!

What I miss? Not much. Just sushi and a cocktail. It's not that I drink much, but there was a yummy signature drink at a wedding I went to recently, and I couldn't have it!

Best moment this week: Just being able to spend time with the girls and take them to the park.

What I'm looking forward to: Not too much fun going on this week - but I hope I get to see my dear friends this weekend! I miss them so much and hate how our schedules are so hard to coordinate.

Next Appointment: Anatomy scan is on the 17th and an OB appointment on the 18th. Still not sure if I want to find out or not!

Milestones: Finally, your baby's arms, legs and trunk have caught up to the size of his head. Baby starts plumping up this week, as body fat is deposited under his skin and sweat glands develop. Also, the placenta is almost as big as your baby.

12 Weeks 3 Days

Just so I don't forget - I think I feel the baby rolling! These were the first movements I felt with the girls too - mostly Alex since she was baby A. I still can't believe it's real! WOW! OK - I'll post more next week. The girls are going great!

It's been a while...again!

I'm getting bad at updating again. So around 4/23 we noticed Alex's top teeth coming in! Finally!! It's been a good few weeks where the girls aren't rubbing their gums and crying and just uncomfortable. It makes me so happy! This past weekend, 5/5, I noticed that Sofi's top left (lateral incisor) had cut her through her gums! She has such a cute row of top teeth, but it's so hard to get a good picture of them! Her upper lip doesn't reveal them. The girls are just doing great. They're standing all over the place. Not quite ready to cruise yet, but I'm in no rush. I just love watching Sofi make sure that her hand is in a place that will support her - it's funny to watch her test the waters. Alex, she tends to either stay in one spot or be a little reckless. Grandma N came and stayed with us for a few days. It was great for the girls to get to see her - this twice a month thing isn't enough for them to really form a bond with her. Today we're headed to Se.ars to get some pics of the girls. My aunt gave us a gift certificate for pictures and I'm excited to use it. I hope they're in a good mood! This weekend is Mother's Day! I'm excited. Not so much about what I'll get or what DH will do for me, but we have a little secret that I'm dying to get out! Mini-Mart 3.0 is due to arrive 12/4/2012!! Yup. that's right. We're going to have 3 under 2! We were shocked, surprised and oh so pleased when we found out. Who would have thought that we would go from being an infertility statistic to a "I knew someone who tried for three years, got pregnant, had twins, then got pregnant on their own!" Yeah - I guess it doesn't always take a team of Reproductive Endocrinologists, Embryologists, Anesthesiologists, countless nurses, appointments, money and heartache for it to happen. There can be a sweet surprise! We're still in shock about it all, and I have no clue how we're going to manage this. But we'll figure it out. I'm thrilled and I just want an uneventful pregnancy, delivery and recovery.

FET#1 - Numbers

Just so I don't forget these numbers:

TTC#1 since 2008
FET#1 - Transfer on 11/16 - BFP!!
Beta#1=516
Beta#2=1136
Beta#3=2433
9 week u/s - Still Two Heartbeats!!

This was in my siggy on one of my boards. I figure it's time to get rid of it and make some room for more pictures, but I just don't want to forget these numbers!

In other news, the girls are keeping us on our toes! They are standing everywhere they can and it scares me! Many of their PJ's don't have the grippy-things and we have hardwood floors - you can imagine my fear. I think they need new ones ASAP! Those things are just easier to keep them in all day than pants and socks. They ALWAYS pull off their socks. It never fails. People at the store always comment that someone is missing a sock - I know - it's usually in the bottom of the stroller!

I think they are both getting the "mama" and "papa" thing - not that they know who they are calling - but they do make the sounds when they chatter. I can't wait until they actually KNOW who they are calling!

This morning the girls were on our bed and DH was feeding Alex and trying to change Sofi's diaper. He picked up Sofi and she wanted out of his arms, so I offered her to come to me - she dove into my arms! I LOVE that they actually want to come to me and know that they want that! Don't worry though, she jumped right back into her daddy's arms two minutes later - she just needed a little mama loving!

And finally! I hope this picture posting works...

Photobucket

A little taste of our Easter Sunday. We spent it at my parents house and had a blast! They had so many family members over and got some great toys to play with!

They're changing way too fast...

Seriously, my little babies are just growing up way too fast!
In the last two weeks, Sofi has cut her two top teeth, is pretty much crawling and exploring, she's pulling herself to standing, and she's so stinkin' cute! We find her "stuck" in the most funny places - she manages to get under the jumparoo, but can't quite fiqure out how to climb back over the metal rods! So she sits under it, trying to get out, but her head hits the contraption and she gets frustrated! My mom has also found her trying to stand by using the bottom bars of the bar stool chairs, and she's also been found on the platform thing of their high chairs. It's so wonderful to see her explore and find new things, and she's taken a liking to licking the floor. Yeah - I actually have to tell my child to not lick the floor. I can only imagine what it's going to be like at the playground with her.

Miss Alex is just as fun to watch! She's finally managing to sit from all fours! She still lays there and "complains" for a while, but we all know she can do it. She's also able to put her snacks in her mouth! I think she's getting the hang of her pincer grasp (I think that's what it's called!) She took each snack I had in the palm of my hand and put them right in her mouth! She also seems to be my early riser. This morning she was wide awake at 6am. I needed to get to work, so I left her to play in her crib with some toys. She's standing in her crib too - but she's not as quick to do that, so she's still pretty safe to just leave in there.

Goodness - what else. Easter is this weekend, I'm excited to take them for their Easter Bunny pictures (hopefully we'll make it on Saturday) and then we're off to church and my mom's on Sunday. It's going to be nice to hang out with family.

My aunt and uncle are also supposed to be at our house today to hang out with the kids - I hope they all have a fun time and get to play and go outside.

The girls just love to be outside! Anywhere! This past weekend my friends L & N were coming over and instead of going to the grocery store the night before, we went to the local high school's food truck fundraiser. (Which was so much fun and yummy!) That meant that on Saruday morning I had to hit the store, by myself, with the girls. Well, it actually went really well! I strapped Sofi in the Bjorn, and I put Alex in the cart. I will admit to doing a little dancing around to make sure we didn't have any tears, but that was totally fun. I gave them their bottle as I was loading the car and they slept all the way home. Unfortunatly, they didn't stay asleep for very long after I took them upstairs. I was barely getting myself into a nice groove to put away groceries and get some snacks ready for my friends - when what do I hear, but both girls crying. Well, I scratched the groceries and decided to get them bathed and dressed. We came downstairs and I had Sofi in the jumparoo and I was holding Alex when L & N came in.

Off the bat, L asks to hold Alex. She gets in L's arms and looks at me with a pouty lower lip (remind me to take a picture of this - it's way too cute!) but otherwise she's fine. We get to Sof who is not enjoying the jumparoo so I take her out. N asks to hold her. I warn him that she may start to cry. It didn't take more than 30 seconds for all out screaming and crocodile tears. Poor N was a champ and took it in stride, not giving up the chance to hold her. Unfortunatly, Sof just didn't want anything to do with him. And as we have learned, if Sofi is that upset, it gets Alex upset, and as soon as Sof calms down, Alex gets all riled up. So you can imagine to their surprise, that we needed to sit on the floor so I could manage to hold both kids and calm them down a bit. It took over a half hour, but soon Alex really warmed up to Lauren and even fell asleep on her lap. Sofi totally warmed up as well and was having fun with both of them.

This little episode made me very nervous about having my cousins watch the girls the next day. I went in prepared for a crying fest and was so suprised when they were totally fine with them. They have seen my cousins more than L & N, but I was still worried. They had a great time while mom and grandma went to the shower.

Well I'm off to get Alex and Sofi their hair bows for this Sunday! I hope the kiosk has the colors I need!

More Milestones!

I can't seem to keep up with this blog! The girls are just changing so much. It's incredible to see but I want time to slow down!!

So on March 14th, Sofi figured out how to get into a sitting position from her belly. Now she just does that to move around and get to the toy that she wants! And nothing can get in her way. She constantly sits on poor Alex - and Alex gets the "WTF! Get off of me!" look going. But Alex is also quick to take the opportunity to give Sofi a huge hug like that! With Sofi's back at her chest. It's priceless.

Then yesterday, March 21, I went home early to take Sof to the GI doctor's appointment and my mom had the girls dressed and sitting in their cribs. They were cranky, they needed to eat, but we wanted to get them in their car seats first and hit the road. So I see Alex actually kneeling in her crib and think it's cute that her paci reaches the top of the rail. I go to grab my jeans to change out of my work clothes and come back to see her standing in her crib and smiling from ear to ear! I yell for my mom to come and see! Then I run to get the camera, and by the time I got back she had fallen and was back to being miserable again. We coaxed her for a little bit and finally got her to stand again to get a quick pic.

Alex has also mastered the art of clapping. After the dr, we went to grab some take-out and there was a tv in the restaurant showing the NY Nicks and the 76ers (that's basketball), Alex sat in her stroller watching the game and cheering (aka screeching)and clapping. I was too busy ordering the food to really see when she was "cheering", but it was the cutest thing to me. I tried to tape it, but as soon as she saw the camera - she would look at me and smile and stop what she was doing. Oh well, I see many more sporting events in her future, I'm sure I'll capture it then.

So the GI dr said that we should try to get the girls eating more solids and reducing the amount of formula. The reduction in the liquid should help with her spit-up. He also said that new studies are showing that kids should be allowed to/given whatever they want to eat except for honey. This means that there is no need to wait for eggs, peanut butter, strawberries, etc. The research has shown that there may be a small window of opportunity to introduce all of these foods and have the child to help build up their immune systems/tolerance for this stuff. They don't think it helps to prevent allergies by waiting so long. So, this is what we shall aim for. It should be much more fun to get them to eat so many different things. Even I was getting sick of the 10 things they were eating!

Thankfully my mom understands my frustration - I've been trying to follow all the guidelines the medical world offers and yet not dismiss the "old school" things that have gone on for generations. This is going to be a change for me, but a good one. I really want the girls to be exposed to all types of food and to have healthy eating habits. I see too many kids around me who don't - not that they're unhealthy, but it's heartbreaking to see the parents have to try so hard to feed them and the kids becoming so frustrated by it. It's just not a battle I want.

So other than that - all things are good! My cousin just got engaged and is getting married in October. She really wants the girls to walk down the aisle - not really as flower girls, but junior flower girls - I guess. They should be walking by that age if they follow all the regular milestones. I just have a fear that they'll reak havoc! We'll see how they are as we get closer - but they will be attending the ceremony for sure. The reception - not so much - that's when mommy wants to kick off her heels and celebrate with her little sister! But how the heck do I find a sitter when the ENTIRE family is going to be there. I hope by bff is up to the task of watching them!

And they turn 8 months old tomorrow .... someone hold me... how is this happening so fast...mommy isn't ready.

More clapping!

Alex has officially entered the world of clapping too! Her little chubby hands look so adorable when she claps. She also has a habit of staring at her hand and just twisting it and concentrating on it. It's so cute!

Miss Alex is also teething yet again. Poor little thing had a really rough day on Monday, so I resorted to giving her some T.yl.enol. She was biting down on her toys and just not letting go. She was all red and hot looking and just miserable.

On the Sofi front, she's a little dare-devil! We officially have to take the riser's out of the pack n' play's. I let her do her thing yesterday, and she almost fell out of it. She doesn't stand up straight - so she ends up with her head hanging over the side of the PNP. Not good.

We also took her to Dr K for her spitting up. DH had noticed that she was spitting up food she had eaten over 6-8 hours earlier. Apparently she should not have that food in her stomach by 6-8 hours. It's only happened a few times, but it's also hard to tell when they don't eat a colorful food - so she's having us go to a pediatric GI specialist. The appointment is on the 21st so we'll see what they say. I don't think there is anything super serious going on with her, but it would make me feel much better talking to a specialist. I don't think we'll do any extreme testing on her yet. She's growing just fine - she's still in the 40th percentile for her weight and we're all happy with that. I guess only time will tell.

Milestones and other happenings

So this post may be all over the place. A lot of wonderful things have happened in the last few weeks!

2/29/2012 - Sofi will now clap when we coax her to! She tends to hold her left hand still and slap it with her right one. Grandma had turned on the Nat.e Be.rk.us Show and Sofi started to clap when the audience was clapping! I can totally picture this in my head. I'll have to record some talk shows and get her to do it again.

2/27/2012 - I'm noticing Alex propping herself up on all fours!! Like that chubby little belly is totally off the floor. OMG - she'll be on the go in no time at all! She gets up on all fours and is rocking a little back and forth, but doesn't get the idea that she needs to move her arms. My lazy little girl likes to show us all up!

2/21/2012 - We started to officially put them in their cribs at night. I'm sad that they're not in our room - well, we've had them in separate rooms for about two months now, but you know what I mean. They're big girls now and mama is sad to have this happen - selfishly. But they're still keeping their same pattern. They tend to get up at least once to eat, but I can usually put them back to sleep the other times.

They also took their first vacation! We went us to the mountains (La.ke Ar.rowh.ead) and rented a cabin with some family. It was chilly but we didn't get any fresh snow while we were there. However, there was some on the ground (granted it was basically ice) but they were able to feel it for the first time. They didn't have much of a reaction to it.

We're also fully into solids. They have had many different things: avocado, bananas, mango, green beans, broccoli, apples, pears, yams, carrots, acorn squash, and I'm sure a few others. We've also tried both rice cereal and oatmeal. Everything has been a winner - except green beans. It's not like they hate it, but especially Sofi, only tolerates a few bites. Hopefully they'll change their minds when we use them as finger foods. We also gave them a few Puffs. I love seeing their expressions! They still look like they're thinking really hard and trying to figure out how to move their mouth! It's so cute!

What else. Oh - we had their tooth party! It was a fun afternoon, though I think they knew something was going on, because they refused to nap all morning! But they tolerated the swarm of people very well. Sofi grabbed a stethoscope. My MIL was happy that DH would experience all the struggles they did putting a child through medical school and everything that comes with it! It was funny. Alex first grabbed her favorite saxophone toy and everyone thought that I shouldn't have included that one - so they took it away from her and she eventually grabbed the book. So it looks like we could have two highly educated little ladies!

The tooth party is an old tradition where you celebrate the child's first tooth. You place a few toys/objects in front of them to symbolize various career paths, then you hold a piece of lace over their head and shower them with candy, money and grains (weird combo - I know) and all of this is supposed to wish them well for their future.

OK - those are the main points I had to make sure to document so I didn't forget! I'll be back with pics and some more cute stuff.

Green Beans and Outings

Apparently I can spell if my life depended on it. Sorry.

Saturday was my parents anniversary but as far as I knew, they were heading home and we would maybe do something on Sunday. Well, after calling them to congragulate them, my mom chimes in that they're going out with one of my aunt's and her daughter (my cousin) and it would be such a surprise if we were to meet up with them. And the best part - they would come closer to us. Sure - why not.

So dh, the girls and I finished our little shopping trip. Decided to stop and have some pho for lunch. It was yummy and thankfully there weren't many people in the restaurant. We ordered and dh went to bring the car closer. As soon as he came back I needed to take Alex to the car and change her dirty diaper. Bad mommy forgot wipes/papertowels so I tried to use the disposable changing pad to clean her up. Needless to say, the poor kid had to sit there with poop on her for a little while until we got home. So we went back in the restaurant and tried to eat. Miss Alex was in a chatty mood and kept yelling! It's cute for us, but not the other 5 people who are trying to have a quiet meal. DH took them outside while I finished and we got home, fed the girls, gave them each a bath and got ready to go out again.

We get to the mall where we're meeting everyone and my cousin is so excited to see Alex and Sofi - she comes over to Alex's side of the car and all she gets is a huge pouty face from her. We chalk it up to the fact that she was sleeping in the car. Nope - the little stinker kept up that pouty face everytime my poor cousin tried to hold her! I don't know how she went from the loud and happy baby at lunch to the pouty face. Oh well! We had some great coffee and dessert, walked around and then headed home. There was a live band and everything at the outdoor mall - wish we had gotten there earlier.

Sunday we decided to stay home most of the day. DH took my car for a wash and since the girls wouldn't stop crying, I took off their diapers and let them lay around and play for a while. Ummm....Alex pooped. Yuck! Thankfully DH walked in right as I had discovered this and helped clean them up. My parents came over and we headed to the park to have lunch. For some reason Sofi wasn't having much of the park - she usually loves the one by our house, but I guess she didn't like the pond and the ducks!

Then it was off to TJ's for some shopping. Picked up some green beans for the girls first "real" food! We got home and I started to make their food, since I thought I had just enough time to make it and get them fed. They watched the end of the Super Bowl with Grandpa and Daddy while I made it. We got them in their high-chairs and started to feed them. Alex did great! She was mastering swallowing without spitting out most of it! But towards the end she would open her mouth and stick out her tounge with all the green beans on it! Pretty funny - but that was the hint that she was done with it.

Sofi - she didn't like the beans as much, but I think it was because she was just too hungry. Hubby tried, but then just gave her a bottle and she was a happy camper. We'll try them again today and see what she thinks.

Oh - did I mention that after their first try with cereal, I gave Sofi the warm bottle of formula that I had used for the cereal and she wanted nothing to do with it. I made her a regular bottle with room temp water and she took it with no issue! Kind of funny since I sometimes feel bad that I only give them room temp bottles - but that's what they are used to.

Solids and our first injury!

What a week! On Monday evening we started solids. Rice cereal is the first thing on the list. Sofi took to it very easily! She barely made a mess! Alex - not so much. I think she was too hungry. She would let it just sit in her mouth and couldn't get the hang of swallowing it.

Tuesday they did a little better. I'm learning to make sure they are not too hungry and somewhat calm before feeding them. We did much better today. And I also realized that warming up the formula a bit could make it feel more like a meal for them - or so my mind things that!

Wednesday grandma had to give them half their cereal at lunchtime. They were just too fussy. Then we had a little more for dinner.

The Ped had told us to start with one meal a day for a week then switch to two a day and then finally start adding different foods - so they are eased into it. We'll see how the girls do and go from there.

So this brings us to last night (Thursday) We sat the girls in their chairs and fed them. They stayed there as we ate our dinner - grandma and grandpa were there. Sofi was sitting between my mom and I - I look down and see that her feet are red. She ALWAYS rubs her feet together. For a second I thought it was either the color from her red pj's that were left on her feet or food coloring (why?!?) or maybe she rubbed her feet so much that she caused an actual open wound. Nope. Apparently one of her toe nails must have gotten too long and tore off at a bad angle and very deep - it caused bleeding and the fact that she is always rubbing her feet together, caused the blood to spread. Poor baby girl! I wiped it off with a wet cloth and applied pressure while my mom got her a band aid and bigger socks (in hopes that she wouldn't rub them so much they would fall off her feet) By the time we gave her a bath an hour later, the bleeding had stopped. And may I say that she wasn't even phased by this - she carried on like I was interrupting her playtime! I hate cutting their nails - I can only do it when they're asleep - so I have to make sure I take any opportunity I can. But the situation is usually not good for cutting nails so they grow a little too long. Mommy needs to do a better job.

And can I just add how much I stinkin' love these girls! When I walk in the door from work, I get the biggest smiles and grins and just the excitement in their eyes is priceless! Then when they're in the bath (we still wash them one at a time while they lay down on the bath seat "thingy") the smiles that you get from them are just so pure and innocent. I love that time with them. As hard as it can be to do bath-time with both of them - those smiles are soooo worth it! I don't want to share them!

Then last night I did what I know I shouldn't - I let them sleep with me at different times. After Alex's bath she got her bottle and fell asleep in my arms. I had to do the whole "hold her upright for 20-30 minutes" - I love that time - but then I fell asleep and no one came to take her from me - so she slept with me for a good two hours. Then when Sof got up to eat at 1am - the same thing happened - I fell asleep and even after I woke up I let her stay with me. Just holding her like that is so wonderful - and I enjoyed every moment of it! And I wonder why I can't get them to sleep through the night in their own PnP.

More teeth!!

On Wednesday January 25th I felt Sofi's first little tooth poking out! My baby girls are just growing up so fast - I want to press the stop button.

We had out OT appointment that day. I love Jocelyn. She's such a sweetheart and just takes her time with us and my neurotic questions. Sofi is doing great. She even commented that she could be crawling very soon...like in as little as two weeks! I have a hard time believing that - she's just not quite there. She's doing amazing sitting up! I left her to play a bit yesterday and I think she sat up on her own for about 3-5 minutes! Then she reached for something and toppled over! She's such a trooper though - not a complaint. So we were given a few exercises for teaching her how to crawl on all fours and to keep helping her strengthen her core muscles.

Alex - well, Alex is just like her daddy. She only does things when she wants to and you can't force her. She has a killer grasp! But needs a bit more trunk strengthening. So we got some exercises for her and we need to not support her as much when she sits up. Just let her feel like she's tipping over so she understands what to do. But when she wants to do something - she's do it!

We also had our 6 month visit with Dr K. Went very well! Little Alex is now 9 ounces heavier than Sofi. I need to get a copy of their stats from home and post them - but overall they are in the 50th percentiles - except Alex's head is in the 90th! Takes after her mamma!

We also got the ok to start solids!!! YAY!!! So hopefully tonight they'll be in a good mood and I can try it out. Their spoons are washed and the rice cereal is sitting in thier cupboard!

We still have the girls in separate rooms at night, but I think they're getting better at sleeping for longer periods of time. It also helps that I think I finally figured out their bedtime should be at about 7:30 for things to go well. That doesn't mean it works out every day - Alex decided that she was pooped at 5pm yesterday and slept until about 9:30pm - but that also meant she was pretty wide awake at 4am. It's a work in progress.

I just can't stop saying how much I love these two. They are just so different yet as loveable as can be. How did I get so lucky? Sofi just has the softest little hands. They do feel like satin. And when she wants to hold your hand - omg. Her little face lights up already when she sees Alex. It's the sweetest thing ever. And Alex - she gets so excited at times and smiles so wide that it's just contagious. I try to have her sit in a chair so I can take a picture of her and she gets so excited that she tips over! Thankfully I'm always holder her and quick to grab her! My heart is just so full.

6 months - wow - just wow!

Oh boy - I've slacked.

They are officially 6 months old.

How did that happen? How did my wrinkled little girls grow up so fast?!? Now they're amazing little babies who smile all the time, love to chat and sing, and are starting to realize they actually have a sister! It's been amazing to watch them grow and learn. They are both pretty much masters of rolling over these last two weeks. Took alot of practice and teaching from mom and grandpa - but they're masters now! We can't leave them alone anymore!

Alex got her bottom two teeth on January 5th - well we felt the first one and by the time I looked again, the second was already there! I think it happened within a day or two of each other.

Sofi is almost there! Finally! This little lady started her drooling and hand biting way before Alex - but still no teeth. Thankfully Hubby let me know that you can sort of see the white of the tooth from under her gums - so we're reallllyyyyy close!!

We're also working on sleeping a bit more. They're doing much better - usually one or two wake-ups at night. But they are very much like their mommy - they're usually up for the day by 6am - if not 5am. Well - let's just hope this is still the case over the next 18+ years. I don't want to fight them to get up for school.

We have officially made the switch to soy formula as of last night - per dr's advice. Let's see if this helps with their spitting up. She also suggested adding rice cereal to the formula - but I'm holding off on it to see how just the formula switch goes. They just spit up so much - though they're "happy spitters", it also makes me wonder why it's so much. It's not like they eat alot at each feeding - they are 6 months and only eat 4 ounces every 2.5 hours, we burp them and hold them upright for at least 30 minutes. And they're on meds for the reflux too. Hopefully this helps.

Oh geez - there is so much to say about how wonderful it is to watch them change every day. I don't know how to put it into words. I'm so thankful that my mom made a suggestion early on - to take at least one picture of them each and every day. I really need to put them in a slide-show type thing for each of them and just see how they have changed. She also suggested to write something down everyday in a journal for the girls - but I've totally failed at that. I wanted to write everything from the first day - so since I started it late - it's still not done. I really need to make it a priority and get it up-to-date and keep it up going forward. I think 6 months is a great time to start!

Oh how I love my babies!!

January 5th - 2012

Today was our Christmas - aka jro.sh.neck.

I came home to two screaming babies who were in the middle of baths and needed to be fed! poor grandma! Once these two were fed they were happy sleepy campers for a few minutes while we got a few quick pics of them and they were down for a nap.

BUT! Before that wonderful nap - I was giving Alex a little Ora.jel to help her gums and felt something sharp! I THINK WE HAVE OUR FIRST TOOTH!!! She used to have a tiny white spec on her lower gums that we all thought was a tooth, that went away a few days ago. And I can't "see" this little sharp thing though - but I think I have to come to the realization that my baby is growing up! How did it happen so quickly?!? I'm not ready!

We had our yummy traditional dinner and my parents left to go and continue the celebration at my aunt's house. The girls woke up and H and I were able to play with them for a while and open a new toy! It's funny to see how they react to their toys.

Then it was time for clean pj's and another bottle.

Since we are trying to get them to sleep longer through the night, we're keeping them in seperate rooms for now. We just want each one to learn that they can sleep through the night, and we'll move them back into the same room in a few days. But this isn't going to work if I keep falling asleep with Sof on my chest. Mamma was pooped! But she needs to get her act together and do what is best for these kids and mommy and daddy. Hopefully with the weekend upon us, I'll be able to do this. And next weekend is a long weekend, so I figure there is more time for me to sleep!
